Seiko 5 watch movements

Japanese name: セイコー5

The Seiko 5 sub-brand, introduced in 1963, represents well-built but affordable watches for a wide audience. There's some disagreement about what characteristics the number 5 represents, with water resistance being the only universally agreed one. Other candidates are automatic winding (although some Seiko 5s are quartz), the Diaflex mainspring and Diashock system (although quartz Seiko 5s don't have these), a day/date indication (although some Seiko 5s have date only), recessed crown at the 4 o'clock position (although some Seiko 5s have the crown at the 3 o'clock and even 2 o'clock position). A durable case and bracelet is another suggested characteristic. Whatever the reality, there's no doubt that Seiko 5 has built a reputation for reliable, good looking watches that won't break the bank. They're often intended as starter watches but still cherished decades later.
